Pastor’s Class begin today and will meet once a week through March 25. The classes are from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and include a free lunch. These classes are a special opportunity for nonmembers to learn about Christianity and they may choose to join our congregation at the end. Our next service for receiving new members will be on Palm Sunday, April 1. There will be a Shrove Tuesday Prayer Service at Gloria Dei, Elizabethtown, KY on Tuesday. Refreshments will be at 1 PM with the service beginning at 2 PM. The theme will be P.R.A.Y.E.R. The offering: will be divided between Orphan Grain Train and Zone Treasury.
Ash Wednesday services will be at 12 noon and 7 PM this Wednesday. Lenten services will be Wednesdays also at 12 noon and 7 PM. The theme will be “Letting God Have His Way.” The Church Ladies will meet for dinner and “sister-ship” on Monday, February 27, at 6:00 at The Red Lobster (Breckenridge Lane). [“Sister-ship” ~ it’s like fellowship but way better. Laughing this much you can’t take home all the calories!] Please sign up on the bulletin board so we know how many to plan for. Also please try to sit next to someone you don’t know very well; the idea is to get to know each other better. Camp Lakeview will be dedicating the new Main Lodge at Lakeview Villages to the glory of God during a worship service at 2 PM on Sunday, March 4. The guest speaker will be Rev. Daniel May, President of the LCMS Indiana District. Cake and refreshments will be served. Come out and see this wonderful new addition to the camp’s ministry! For directions or more information, visit the camp’s website at www.camplakeview.com. Kids Against Hunger Event: In September 2011 Concordia members and guests made 17,200 meals in under two hours that went directly to starving people in the Horn of Africa. We have an opportunity to lead this community and do another event. This time we will be conducting the meal-making event at Resurrection Lutheran (near Poplar Level and the Watterson) on Saturday, May 19, from 9:00 to 11:30 AM. Kids Against Hunger now has their Louisville Headquarters permanently set up in Resurrection’s gym. Also, I would like us to use this meal-making event for you to invite friends, family, and neighbors to join us in the “making” of the meals. I will be inviting each of the area Lutheran churches and Highland churches to send at least a few folks from their congregations to experience Kids Against Hunger first hand as you did in September. Given that this event will be held on a Saturday morning in a gym it may be more comfortable for people you would like to invite who don’t have a church family. This could be a perfect OUTREACH opportunity for them! The nation of Haiti needs 8,300 meals a day. The meals currently being delivered from other Kids Against Hunger meal-making centers are trucked to our own Louisville airport and flown directly to Haiti! How efficient the Christian stewardship efforts would be if area churches could begin to make meals in Louisville and flown out of Louisville!? Giving To Kids Against Hunger: From now until the May 19th meal-making event Concordia’s congregation can sponsor that effort with our God-given time, talent, and treasure. If you would like to financially support this upcoming K.A.H. event, then you may enclose in your offering envelope or a separate envelope a donation designated as: Kids Against Hunger - Louisville. Our Board of Finance will begin tracking this temporary fund leading up to that event. I will update you periodically. Look for a sign-up sheet in the Gathering Area beginning in March. Begin praying about inviting others to help make the meals the morning of May 19th. Our neighbor, Priscilla’s Place, is in need of some items. Their list includes toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, glass cleaner (refills), furniture polish, toilet bowl cleaner, soap scum remover, multi surface cleaner, bleach, SOS pads, laundry detergent, and fabric softener sheets. If you wish to donate any of these items, there is a collection box in the Gathering Area. Altar Flower Chart: Upcoming dates that are currently available: February 26; March 11, 18, 25; April 8 (Easter); May 13, 20; June 17 Snow Removal: Are you to be on one of the teams helping to keep our sidewalks clean this winter? If so, please sign up on the bulletin board or call the church office. A snow blower is available to help with this task.
Resurrection offers special things for
the community and also serves as a “Lutheran Community Center” for members
of sister parishes. Concordia’s bookstore has gift items for birthdays, weddings, baptisms, and other occasions. It is open after worship services and at times when someone is in the office. Fellowship Meals: We have a Sunday fellowship meal after the late service each month. The Lutheran Braille Workers will provide the meal in March and the Board of Education in April. The group serving the meal can keep the extra receipts for its functions or it may designate where the proceeds should go. If your group wishes to sign up for a meal, you may do so on the bulletin board. Fellowship meal Sundays are wonderful times to invite guests to worship! Worship Schedule: Concordia has two services every Sunday morning through the year – one at 7:45 and the other at 10:00. The goal is to allow Concordia families and guests to have the convenience of eating a light meal and worshipping all in one trip. The Board of Evangelism will provide the Ash Wednesday meal. ____________________________________________________________________ Note on Music: Choral Call to Worship “O Light of Light” O Light of Light, Love given birth, Jesus Redeemer of the earth more bright than day your face did show, your raiment whiter than the snow. Two prophets who had faith to see, with your elect found company, the heavens above your glory named, the Father’s voice his Son proclaimed. May all who seek to praise aright, through purer lives show forth your light. To you, the King of Glory now, all faithful hearts adoring bow. Gradual Anthem “The Heavens Are Telling” from The Creation -Franz Joseph Haydn The heavens are telling the glory of God, the wonder of his work displays the firmament; Today that is coming speaks it the day, the night that is gone to following night. In all the lands resounds the word, never unperceived, ever understood Music During Communion “Be Not Afraid” You shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst, You shall wander far in safety, though you do not know the way. You shall speak your words in foreign lands and all will understand. You shall see the face of God and live. Be not afraid, I go before you always, come follow me, and I will give you rest. If you pass through raging waters in the sea, you shall not drown. If you walk amidst the burning flames, you shall not be harmed. If you stand before the power of hell and death is at your side, know that I am with you through it all. Blessed are the poor, for the Kingdom shall be theirs. Blest are you that weep and mourn, for one day you shall laugh. And if wicked tongues insult and hate you all because of me, blessed are you! “My Son Has Gone Away” My son has gone away, left me, gone astray, but I have seen the way he went and I will bring him back. Jerusalem, how could you run away? Jerusalem, how long my son? I’ll wait for you. I’ll stay Perhaps my son is weary and cold. Perhaps he’s tired and sad. Tonight I’ll go and watch again and wait for his return
