Pastor Michael B. Boyd.

Rev. Michael B. Boyd

Rev. Michael B. Boyd was born on March 14, 1953, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Bill and Eileen Boyd (both parents retired from Dow Chemical and are deceased). Michael was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairbanks. Approximately two years later the Boyd family moved to Niagara Falls, New York, where Michael began grade school. In 1959 they moved to eastern Michigan living in the cities of Detroit, Midland, Freeland, and Bay City, Michigan. Michael attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Bay City from grades 5-8 and he was confirmed there in 1966. He was at Bay City Central for his high school years graduating in 1971 and went on to Central Michigan University where he received a B.S.B.A. degree in Accounting in December of 1976. Michael worked in manufacturing accounting (Federal Mogul Corp.; Baker, Knapp, and Tubbs, Inc. Grand Rapids, Michigan) and corporate accounting (Nabisco; Hart & Cooley, Inc., Holland, Michigan) for a combined 16 years.

On February 13, 1982, Michael married Ida (nee Kerkstra) at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Kentwood, Michigan. Ida was born in the Netherlands and her family immigrated to the U.S. in 1959. Both of her parents, Otto and Ida, are deceased. While in North Judson, Ida worked for the Middle School for twelve years in various positions but primarily as a teacher’s aide in Special Education. The Boyds were blessed with a son, John, and a daughter, Kelly, both born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. John will marry Theresa Lambert (former member of St. Peter) in North Judson on December 19th and they will live in Chicago. This fall Kelly will be entering her third year of teaching high school mathematics at Fort Wayne South High School. She coached the girl’s freshman basketball team the previous two seasons.

In 1993 the Boyd family of Grand Rapids moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Pastor Boyd attended Concordia Theological Seminary receiving a Masters of Divinity degree on May 23, 1997. His vicarage year was with Ascension Lutheran Church, East Lansing, Michigan (95-96) where he studied under the Rev. Dr. Roy Schroeder. On June 22, 1997, Michael was ordained and installed as pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church and School in North Judson, Indiana. He served at St. Peter for twelve years, until June 2009, accepting the call to serve as pastor at Concordia Lutheran Church, Louisville, Kentucky.
